Montreal, 8 October 2003 - Adil Charkaoui appeared in court today for a first hearing in a case which challenges the constitutionality of security certificates.

Charkaoui's Lawyer Julius Grey, renowned expert in constitutional rights, opened his appeal with the words, "Our challenge is a battle for the conscience of Canada. The question is the point to which one can act against an individual."

Release: Forty people rally to demand the abolition of security certificates

Montreal, 7 October 2003 - About forty people gathered in front of the federal government offices in Montreal (Complexe Guy Favreau) to demand justice for Adil Charkaoui, who has been detained since May 2003 under a security certificate, without any accusation having been formally laid against him.

The family, friends and sympathisers all wanted to show their solidarity with Charkaoui, who will be appearing, along with renowned constitutional rights lawyer Julius Grey, tomorrow and Thursday (8 and 9 October) at the Federal Court building, to contest the constitutionality of security certificates. This court appearance is part of a case launched by the Muslim Council of Montreal (MCM).

Family and Friends Of Security Certificates March on Ottawa

On Monday, 25 August in Ottawa a Peaceful march was held to draw attention to the case of five Muslim men currently being detained in Canada under security certificates and secret evidence with allegations they constitute a threat to Canada's national security.

The march was organized, in co-operation of the five families, by the Toronto based "Campaign To End Secret Evidence," and "Homes Not Bombs"

This was the first time that the families and supporters of five men, who are currently being held under security certificates, came together to demand an end to security certificates and the use of secret evidence.
